Muldrow Bulldogs third, girls seventh at Sequoyah Tournament

TAHLEQUAH — The Muldrow Bulldogs finished third in the Sequoyah Invitational Basketball Tournament, which took place Thursday through Saturday at Sequoyah-Tahlequah High School.

The Bulldogs defeated McAlester 69-65 in Saturday evening’s third-place game after the ’Dogs split their first two games of the tournament — beating Glenpool 76-45 on Thursday but falling 6346 to Alma, Ark.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the tournament on a high note as they won the seventh-place game, routing Oklahoma City Classen 55-8 on Saturday morning. The Lady Bulldogs suffered their first two losses of the season, losing 4944 to Ada on Thursday and 56-38 in Friday afternoon’s consolation semifinals.

In the boys’ thirdplace game, the Bulldogs (3-1) rallied from a 46-41 third-quarter deficit as they outscored the Buffaloes 28-19 in the final period to get the come-from-behind victory — their second such win in three tournament games for the weekend.

For the game, Teaguen Collins scored a game-high 21 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Parker Sevenstar with 19 points, De-Shawn Willson with 10 points, Jesse Kilinc with eight points, D.J. Massey with six points, Jermauree Palmer with four points and J’Vion Mays with a free throw.

Collins and Sevenstar were named to the alltournament team.

In the boys’ championship semifinals, the Airedales rallied from an 18-11 first-period deficit by outscoring the ’Dogs 41-29 over the final three quarters to get the comeback win.

In defeat, Collins and Massey each scored 13 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Sevenstar with eight points, Kilinc with six points, Willson with three points, Palmer with two points and Mays with a free throw.

In the boys’ opening round contest, the Bulldogs got their first come-from-behind victory as they rallied from an 18-16 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Warriors 60-27 to win going away.

For the game, Muldrow had four players hit for double figures, led by Kilinc with a game-high 17 points, followed by Collins with 16 points, Sevenstar with 14 points and Massey with 13 points. Palmer scored eight points, followed by Willson with five points, Mays with four points and Jack Pyeatt with two points.

In the girls’ seventhplace game, the Lady Bulldogs (2-2) jumped out to a 20-0 lead after a quarter and were never headed.

For the game, London Hardin scored a game-high 17 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Emma Fields, Kayla Ellingberg and Leni Cox with six points each, Jaydin Dean with four points, Cherish Atkerson with three points, Kilah Ellingberg, Gracie Prewett, Jaida Washington, Blazi Dieter, Alyiah Duran and Zitlalic Fujarte each with two points and Tae Williams with a free throw.

In the girls’ consolation semifinals, the Lady Airedales led 2822 at halftime but put away the game with a 20-7 third quarter to up their advantage to 48-29 heading into the final period.

In defeat, Hardin and Kilah Ellingberg scored nine points each to lead Muldrow, followed by Kayla Ellingberg and Williams each with eight points, Fields with two points and Washington and Jaycie Gregory with a free throw apiece.

In the girls’ openinground game, the Lady Cougars rallied from an 11-8 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 41-30 over the final three periods to get the come-from-behind victory.

In defeat, Kilah Ellingberg and Fields each scored 15 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Kayla Ellingberg with nine points, Hardin with three points and Williams with a free throw.
