WARNER — The Central High School basketball teams swept the Warner squads to open the season Friday night at Warner Event Center.
The Jay Ray era began for the Lady Tigers with a 48-37 win over the Lady Eagles in the opener, then the Tigers clawed the Eagles 5236.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Tigers (1-0) jumped out to a 9-6 lead after the first quarter, but they used a 19-8 second period to take control of the game as they enjoyed a 28-14 halftime advantage. A 15-9 third quarter upped Central’s lead to 43-23 going into the final period.
For the game, Cambree Bair and Sara Williams each scored a game-high 15 points and Paris Campbell added 10 points to lead Central. Cheyenne Busch scored six points, while Brianna Taylor had two points.
In the boys’ contest, the Tigers took a 12-5 lead after the opening quarter en route to a 2317 halftime advantage and a 40-24 lead after three periods.
For the game, Noah Buzzard scored 19 points to lead Central, followed by Josh Brunk with nine points, Gavin Randolph with eight points, Paitton Merrill with seven points, Brycen Chandler-Eisman with six points and Jake Woods with three points.
The Central teams will be idle until playing in the Gore Tournament, which will be Thursday through Saturday at Gore Event Center. The Lady Tigers will play Braggs at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the opening round, while the Tigers got a bye into Friday night’s championship semifinal game against the winner of Thursday’s Gore-Hulbert game at 8 p.m.
