Angel Tree and Christmas food boxes are in place at three Sequoyah County schools to meet the needs of local children, as well as providing a few of their wants during the holiday season.
KiBois Community Action and its community resource network partners, along with Roland and Moffett schools, have been partnering for 14 years to provide underprivileged children and families the chance to have a wonderful Christmas.
In past years, about 250 children are usually served each year. With each angel on the tree, the goal is to provide clothes, shoes, coats, socks and underwear, plus toys for ages birth to high school seniors. Eligibility is based on the 125% poverty rate of household income, with all families in need meeting this criteria.
In addition, each family will be provided a food box containing a turkey with all the trimmings for Christmas dinner.
Added to the schools this year is Liberty Public Schools.
Angel Tree and Christmas food drives continue through December 5 at Roland Public Schools, until December 9 at Moffett Public Schools and through December 15 at Liberty Public Schools.
Distribution of food boxes and Angel Tree gifts will be December 19 at the Waylon Jones Complex in Roland.
KiBois Community Action is a nonprofit organization, and works strictly on donations to make the holiday giving possible. All donations help local families, and are greatly appreciated. Donation receipts are available upon request. Make checks payable to KiBois Community Action.
