After 15 years of dedicated service, Liberty Public School Superintendent Chris Michael is preparing to close one chapter of his career and begin another. In a heartfelt message to the Liberty community, Michael announced that he will be stepping down at the end of this month to accept a position with the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
Reflecting on his time at Liberty, Michael described the school as much more than just a workplace.
“For the past 15 years, Liberty has been so much more than just where I’ve worked, it’s been my home and my family,” he wrote.
Michael expressed deep gratitude to the teachers, staff and parents who have supported the school through years of growth and change.
“Together, we’ve celebrated great moments, faced challenges and made lasting memories that I’ll always treasure,” he said.
He reserved special praise for Liberty’s students, both past and present.
“Watching you learn, grow and achieve has been the greatest joy of my career,” he said. “You make Liberty a truly special place, and I’ll always be cheering you on.”
Michael also shared his confidence in Liberty’s future leadership, welcoming incoming superintendent Mrs.
Phelps.
“She brings great dedication and care for our students, and I know she will continue the work of keeping Liberty strong and moving forward,” he said.
While he looks forward to his new role at the state level, Michael admitted that leaving Liberty is bittersweet. “This school and community will always hold a special place in my heart,” he said.
He closed his message with thanks to the Liberty community for their “support, friendship, and the many ways you’ve made these years so meaningful.”
Michael’s departure marks the end of an era for Liberty Public School, where his leadership and commitment have helped shape the district for more than a decade.
