The Eastern Oklahoma Development District (EODD), in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, is encouraging residents of Moffett to apply immediately for financial assistance through the Voluntary Buyout Program (VBP).
This program provides eligible households with the opportunity to sell flood-damaged properties at pre-disaster value, plus additional financial incentives, to help families relocate to safer housing outside of flood-prone areas.
Empty lots are also eligible. Funding is limited and available for a short time only.
“The Town of Moffett is at a critical juncture,” said Ernie Moore, with EODD.
“FEMA has temporarily delayed suspending Moffett from the National Flood Insurance Program while the voluntary buyout program is active.
“However, once the program ends, federal funding from FEMA or HUD will no longer be available to assist the town even when it floods again in the future.
“This is the last chance for residents of Moffett to benefit from federal disaster recovery dollars.”
Residents must act quickly. EODD has set a deadline of Nov. 15 for interested households to submit applications.
After this date, additional applications will not be considered.
To date, a total of 58 lots and six properties in Moffett have been acquired and are scheduled for demolition.
