Local CASC cross country runners glad to get to be running at national meet
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

All three local Carl Albert State College cross country runners, Roland freshman Landon Killer and Muldrow twin sisters Katelynn and Kennady Moore, will get to end their season this fall at the 2025 NJCAA Championships, which will be Saturday in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

All three were glad to qualify for the national meet this season.

“I was pretty excited,” Killer said. “It was a great feeling.”

“I was totally excited,” said Kennedy Moore, who will be running in her second straight NJCAA Championships. “Last year was so much more fun. Just the traveling, in general, is awesome to get to experience everything. The running adrenaline is just different than anything else.” “I was kind of nervous,” Katelynn Moore said. “It’s my first time. My sister got to do it last year. I think it’s going to be a really good experience.”

Katelynn Moore was medically red-shirted after recovering from her injury suffered during the Class 4A high school basketball playoffs her senior year in 2024. After being basically a spectator and “manager” for twin sister Kennady, Katelynn is glad to be running competitively once again.

“I’m really excited,” Katelynn Moore said. “It’s actually been way better than what I thought it was going to be like. It’s been easier to get back into the transition.”

Twin sister Kennady is glad to be running competitively with her sister again, but does miss Katelynn’s “manager” duties she enjoyed a season ago.

“I really enjoy it,” Kennady Moore said. “It makes me comfortable. I miss her not being my manager (as Katelynn was a season ago) and help me out with my medicine and everything. It is nice to finally see her healthy enough to run again because this is her sport as well.”

Although both Moore twins are sophomores academically, Kennady will see her CASC athletic eligibility come to an end this year, while Katelynn still has one more athletic season she could run with the Lady Vikings. However, both twins believe when they graduate this spring from CASC, they both will be heading elsewhere, and likely to the same place — or at least nearby each other.

“I really can’t do life without my sister,” Katelynn said. “If she leaves, I think I’m going to leave, too.”

“We’ve talked about it a lot,” Katelynn said. “Every time we talk about splitting up, there’s crying involved. I feel like wherever I go, Katelynn will either go with me or we’ll be close together.”

Last fall, Killer was the only Roland Ranger to run at the Class 3A State Meet last year, along with Roland Lady Ranger Molly Carver. Killer believes his experience at the state meet will help him come Saturday’s national meet.

“It’s about the same,” Killer said. “It’s a big deal.”

Killer also is excited to be running with the entire CASC Vikings team, as well as the entire Lady Vikings squad instead of being solo.

“I’m pretty excited,” he said. “It’s much better (having the whole team running).”

All three local CASC runners can have the same fate happen to them. They could be part of a national championship team and/or they could be an individual national champion and/ or they could be an All-American with a high enough finish. All three would be thrilled with one of those accomplishments, let alone all of three of them.

“I would be grateful,” Killer said. “I’ve gone through a lot of adversity with injuries and mental stuff. It would be a great feeling if I just accomplished one of those things.”

“I would probably cry,” Katelynn Moore said. “That would be awesome for my last year here at Carl Albert. It would be amazing if we did that.”

“I would definitely be freaking out,” Kennady Moore said. “I probably wouldn’t even know what to do to be honest. That would be like so many different emotions running through me. I would probably be screaming for joy, then crying the next second just because that would be amazing for our team.”

Carl Albert State College cross country runners, from left, Muldrow twin sisters Kennady and Katelynn Moore, and Roland’s Landon Killer, will get to run in the 2025 NJCAA Championships on Saturday in Fort Dodge, Iowa. It will be Kennady Moore’s second straight trip to the national meet, while it will be the first for Katelynn Moore and Killer.
