Gans Grizzlies suffer district loss to Wilson, receive forfeited win over Wesleyan Christian
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

HENRYETTA — The Gans Grizzlies hung tough into the early moments of the second half, only to come up short in a 46-12 loss to the host Wilson (Henryetta) Tigers.

The Grizzlies (3-6 overall, 1-3 in District BII-4 play) got two touchdown passes from Jasper Green.

Green’s first TD pass, a 25-yarder to Austin Hines with 11:52 left before halftime.

The scoring drive came on the heels of the Tigers (5-2, 3-0) taking the opening kickoff back 81 yards for a score. The scoring drive for the Grizzlies with 11 plays and ate up the final 11 minutes plus of the first half.

The Grizzlies, who trailed 24-6 at the half, cut their deficit in half on Green’s second touchdown pass of the night, a 21-yarder to Quirt Ward, to cut the Wilson advantage to 24-12 with 11:04 left in the third quarter. That drive was set up by the Grizzlies recovering an onside-kick attempt by the Tigers.

Unfortunately, that was as close as the Grizzlies got as the Tigers scored the game’s final 22 points.

For the game, Green threw for 76 yards and two TDs.

The Grizzlies were to have played Wesleyan Christian this week, but the Mustangs dropped football earlier this season. So, the Grizzlies will receive a 15-0 forfeited win over the Mustangs.

Gans coach Gary Hixon said the Grizzlies will end up enjoying another bye week this week and not return to action until their Senior Night game against the Webbers Falls Warriors at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at Grizzly Field.

“We had teams call us,” Hixon said. “Medford called us, and another team outside Oklahoma City called us and wanted us to come out that way on a Thursday night. We just decided to not drive that far on a Thursday night and come back to school on a Friday. (Last Thursday) night was a long enough trip to get us back here (from Wilson High School). So, we’re going to treat it as another bye (week).”
