The Enemy Surrounding the Church
Commentary
October 28, 2025
The Enemy Surrounding the Church
I will pursue you!
By Shirley R. Watts,

“The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake,” (Exodus 15:9).

“Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The Lord will be a light to me. I will bear the indignation of the Lord, Because I have sinned against Him, Until He pleads my case And executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to he light; I will see His righteousness. (Micah 7:810).

Why would God allow the enemy to come against His People? Disobedient. They believed because they were God’s Chosen People that they could get away with. Is the Church like this? Yes!

The enemy knows where to attack the Church. When you drive past the local church building, what do you think? Let’s go inside! Let us be reminded that the “local church” is made up of “unbelievers” and “true believers. Do not judge the True Church by the local church. The true Church is made up of born-again people of God. There is no way the “unbelievers” can ever be members of the True Church. You must be born again!

In Matthew 13:2430, 36-43, we see where God sowed “good seed” (wheat) and then the enemy came and sowed the “bad seed” (tares) among the wheat and went his way. “Jesus said: “Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” This is important to understand, because the devil is using church members who are not saved to prevent the unbelievers from coming to Christ as Savior.

Evil Campers

As Christians we do not to allow the devil to sow bad seed in our lives. He is the real enemy!!! He has his demons camped around and inside each local church, homes of Believers! I am afraid many Christians cannot identify the enemy when he approaches them. The reason is there are too many “social sermons” given by “passive pastors” they are not opening their Bible, nor or they praying. Neither are the members. This leaves the “gate” wide open and invites the enemy in. Christians have closed the Bible. It is more than covered with dust, but is covered with things of the world (sin)! If you do not study His Word and you do not pray, you will be ambushed by the enemy and taken captive. The Christians must open the Bible and pray!

Without Love

The enemy has said “I will pursue, I will overtake,” (Exodus 15:9) The local church at Ephesus (Rev. 2:1-7) was busy doing the right things, but had left their love for the Lord. The enemy convinced them to be so busy and they forgot to worship Christ. Jesus looks into the heart. They were doing good, but it was not motivated by love, therefore all was in vain. We must not sacrifice love for labor! They were busy serving the organization and not the Lord. This happens!

Remember

How do you know when you are serving from the heart? Jesus said to “Remember therefore from where you have fallen” (Rev. 2:5a).

Remember! Go back to the time when you became a Christian, forgiven of sin, peace within and filled with joy and excitement. Repent! Bow your heart, confess the sin of leaving your love for Him. Repeat! Do the first works of praise, prayer, Bible study, witnessing and worship. Be Restored in fellowship!

Christian, how is your heart beating today? Is it with adoration? or busy work without love? Have you allowed the enemy in? Don’t leave him an open door, put him on the run! He may pursue, but he will not overtake! He may ambush you, but God will deliver us! The enemy does not triumph over me” (Psalm. 41). Amen!

When we find ourselves “busy” without love, the enemy gloats and sees us a defeated Christian. He may even say, “Where is your God?”

I may have fallen, but I will rise! I will conquer and trample him like the mud in the streets.” (Micah 7:8-10). The people said: Praise the Lord!
