The Muldrow Bulldogs fell to the Lincoln Christian Bulldogs 49-3 in District 3A-3 action last Thursday night at Dennis Byrd Stadium in Tulsa in a battle of Bulldogs.
Muldrow has dropped three straight games after starting the season 4-0 and is now 4-3 overall and 1-3 in district play.
Muldrow has its final regular-season home game against Tulsa Holland Hall at 7 p.m. this Friday at Marty Rogers Field.
“Holland Hall is a well-coached team,” Muldrow coach Logan Coatney said. “They are physical at the point of attack and have good skill kids. We are going to have to be disciplined in our assignments. We have to focus on doing our job, execute our scheme and win the turnover battle.”
Lincoln Christian (7-0, 4-0) continued a trio of streaks. Lincoln Christian has won 35 consecutive games, 47 straight district contests and ran its home winning streak to 55.
Muldrow stopped one streak though. Lincoln Christian hadn’t allowed a point in its three previous district games. Wyatt Prewett changed all that when he made a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Muldrow had some other solid efforts. Teaguen Collins had 72 passing yards, recovered a fumble, intercepted a pass, had two punts of greater than 40 yards and another one that travelled more than 50 yards.
“Teaguen is a great kid and a natural athlete,” Coatney said. “It’s been awesome to see his growth and to see the work he puts in both on and off the field.”
Kade Scott finished with 56 receiving yards on a pair of grabs. Lineman Braxton Miller lined up at fullback on several plays and gained 17 yards on four carries.
Muldrow went 3-andout on the game’s opening possession, but a 48-yard punt from Collins flipped field position. However, Lincoln Christian struck quickly as it did on several occasions.
Braeden Baker got the first score of the game on a 35-yard run with 9:16 remaining in the first quarter. It was the first of four touchdowns on the night for Baker.
Lincoln Christian scored again just more than two minutes later on a 58-yard touchdown connection from Carter Ricke to Caleb Peterson. Three minutes later, Ricke had another TD pass, this one covering 22 yards to C.J. Wright.
Collins then made his first big play defensively as he chased down a Lincoln Christian player, forced a fumble and then recovered it himself near midfield 52 seconds into the second period.
Muldrow took advantage and finally had its first sustained drive. The end result saw Prewett’s successful 28-yard field goal at the 6:47 mark of the second quarter.
Baker responded for Lincoln Christian just 13 seconds later with a 2-yard touchdown run. Baker scored again from eight yards out with 1:45 left in the first half.
Collins got his interception in between those two Baker TDs in the end zone with exactly three minutes remaining in the first half.
The clock ran continuously in the second half. Lincoln Christian got touchdown passes from Ricke to Baker (31 yards) and Wright (nine yards) in the third quarter.
Muldrow came close to reaching the end zone in the final period. A pass from backup quarterback Jace Prewett to Scott gained 51 yards and put the ball at the Lincoln Christian 2-yard line.
However, the Lincoln Christian defense forced a couple of losses and eventually an incomplete pass from the 11-yard line on fourth down.
Even with no wiggle room remaining to make the playoffs, Coatney still has faith in his squad.
“We let one or two slip that we needed to win to be in a much better spot, but we can still reach our goals,” he said. “We have to lock in, focus on us and continue to get better.”
