Gans Grizzlies stung by Copan Hornets
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Gans Grizzlies were stung by the Copan Hornets by a score of 58-8 last Thursday night’s District BII-4 game at Grizzly Field that reached the 45-point mercy-rule status midway through the fourth quarter.

After the Hornets (6-1 overall, 2-0 in district play) took an 8-0 lead on the opening possession of the game, the Grizzlies (2-5, 0-2) knotted the game at 8-all on one play as Preston Moore rambled 65 yards for the game-tying touchdown on the first play of the initial Gans possession of the game. Jasper Green scored the two-point conversion.

However, from there it was all Copan as the Hornets scored the game’s final 50 points, with the last TD midway through the final period put the game into mercy-rule status. The Grizzlies will return to action at 7 p.m. this Thursday with a district road game against the Wilson (Henryetta) Tigers.

••• The second annual Gans Grizzly Chili Cook-Off will be from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at the Gans School Cafeteria.

The entry fee to enter a chili cook-off candidate is $25, while a taster kit will cost $8 per person, which includes a bowl, dessert and beverage.

All proceeds will benefit the Gans High School athletic program.

For additional information, call (918) 4579288 or (918) 680-0657.

••• To Get There — Take Oklahoma State Highway 141 east to U.S. 64. Take U.S. 64 west to Sallisaw. Take Interstate 40 west to Henryetta. Take U.S. 62-75 north from Henryetta to Conifer Road (sign saying Wilson Public Schools to the left). Turn left (west) on Conifer Road to Wilson Public Schools.
