Roland Lady Rangers beat Sallisaw on Senior Night, handle Heavener
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

It was a good week of softball for the Roland Lady Rangers last week as they capped off the week with a Senior Night 3-2 win over Sallisaw on Thursday night after routing District 3A-6 foe Heavener 11-1 on Sept. 22 in Heavener.

The Lady Rangers were to have been the Senior Night opponent for the Lady Diamonds on Sept. 23, but that evening’s storms rained out the contest.

However, not only was Roland senior shortstop Addyson Clark honored, the Lady Rangers also honored Sallisaw’s three seniors — pitcher Delaney Compton, catcher Sydney Weedon and manager Jacy Gomez — since their Senior Night got rained out.

In the Senior Night win over Sallisaw, it was only appropriate that Clark have the gamewinning hit as her two-RBI double gave the Lady Rangers (12-12) a 3-2 lead.

Aubriana Gragg’s sacrifice fly tied the game at 1-all in the second inning.

For the contest, Clark had a two-run double, Adriana Moya and Karsyn Serjeant each singled and scored once and Gragg singled with a sacrifice fly for a run batted in for Roland.

McKinna Cooper (12-12) got the win, throwing a five-hitter.

In the district road win over Heavener, the Lady Rangers (4-6 in District 3A-6 play) scored twice in the first inning and three runs in the third inning for a 5-0 lead. After the Lady Wolves cut their deficit to 5-1 after three innings, the Lady Rangers put away the game with a three-run fourth inning, a two-run fifth inning and a single run in the seventh inning.

For the contest, Paisley Davis was 5-for-5 with a double, three runs batted in and three runs scored, Kyleigh Knapp was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, Cooper was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Clark doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored, Moya doubled and scored three runs and Serjeant doubled and scored once for Roland.

Cooper got the win, striking out seven batters in seven innings.

After the Lady Rangers closed out the regular season with Tuesday evening’s road game at Stilwell, they will begin postseason play this week with the Class 3A Regional Tournament, which will take place in Chandler. The exact match-ups and times were not known at press time.
