Central opens district play with home loss to Wewoka in battle of Tigers
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

It was a rough start to the District AII-3 season for the Central Tigers on Friday night at Tiger Stadium as they lost their battle of Tigers with the Wewoka Tigers by a score of 18-6.

Wewoka (3-1overall, 1-0 in district play) scored a touchdown in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead at halftime, which doubled to 12-0 after three quarters.

The lone score of the night for Central (31, 0-1), which saw its three-game winning streak to begin the season get snapped, came on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Kiefer Bailey to Joe Brooks. The two-point conversion attempt failed to keep Central down 12-6 early in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers got no closer to the visitors as Wewoka iced the game with a TD run late in the period.

In defeat, Bailey threw for 122 yards and a touchdown but he also threw three interceptions. Ryker Miller led the team in rushing with 88 yards, while Gavin Randolph’s 52 yards in receptions led the Tigers in that category.

The Tigers will return to action with a road district game against the Tulsa Regent Prep Rams at 7 p.m. in south Tulsa.

••• To Get There — Take U.S. 64 west to Sallisaw. Take Interstate 40 west to the Muskogee Turnpike. Take the Muskogee Turnpike west to the Creek Turnpike. Take the Creek Turnpike west to South Memorial Drive. Take South Memorial Drive north to Tulsa Regent Prep High School.
