LAVACA, Ark. — A slow start by the Roland Rangers hurt them as they lost 36-12 to the host Lavaca Golden Arrows on Friday night.
The Golden Arrows (2-1), who led after a quarter, put away the game with a 28-0 second quarter to take a 36-0 lead at halftime.
For the second straight week, the Rangers (0-2) ended the game on a positive note as they outscored the Golden Arrows 12-0 in the second half, in which a running clock was implemented as per Arkansas high school football rules when a team gets a 35-point lead or more at halftime.
Roland quarterback Alex Brant threw two third-inning touchdown passes — a 65-yarder to Derrick Allen and a 39-yarder to Josh Bower.
Brant threw for 180 yards and two TDs. Allen caught two passes for 101 yards, but Roland only had eight yards rushing.
The Golden Arrows outgained the Rangers 376 yards to 209, and Roland had three turnovers while Lavaca had none.
The Rangers will celebrate homecoming next Friday night when they entertain the Central Tigers at 7 p.m. at Ranger Stadium.
