Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam alert
The Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office has reported that they’ve been made aware of a phone scam where a caller is pretending to be Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s deputy Duwaine Chase, Badge #1892, and is telling people they must either come to the Sheriff ’s Office for a DNA test, or pay $2,000.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane said this is a scam.
“The Sheriff ’s Office will never call you to demand money or request payment over the phone,” Sheriff Lane said.
The sheriff said if you receive one of these calls, do not share personal information and hang up immediately.
“Please help us protect our community by spreading the word,” Lane said.
