Muldrow Lady Bulldogs have tough week of softball
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

It was a rough week of softball for the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs as they went 1-4 last week.

The lone win was a 5-4 victory over the Wilson (Henryetta) Lady Tigers on the first day of the Okmulgee Festival.

The week started with an 11-1 road District 4A-6 loss to the Poteau Lady Pirates on Aug. 18.

The other losses came at the Okmulgee Festival as the Lady Bulldogs lost 8-2 to Fort Gibson on Friday and fell twice on Saturday — 6-1 to Sequoyah-Tahlequah and 8-1 to Checotah.

In the win over Wilson (Henryetta), the Lady Tigers (5-6) rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a four-run fourth inning.

For the game, Raegan Newbern was 2-for-3 with a run batted in, while Kaydence Young was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Muldrow.

Jaydin Dean (4-3) got the win, getting three strikeouts in four innings.

In the district loss to Poteau, an eight-run fifth inning by the Lady Pirates put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Amaya Duran hit her first home run of the season in the first inning to give the Lady Bulldogs (2-2 in district play) a 1-0 lead. Haven Nickson’s single was Muldrow’s other hit.

Dean suffered the loss, despite two strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

In the loss to Fort Gibson, the Lady Tigers broke a 2-all tie with a six-run third inning.

In defeat, Amarie Duran was 2-for-2, while Nickson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Muldrow.

Young (1-3) suffered her first loss of the season, going the first 2.1 innings with three Ks. Dean got the final two outs.

In the loss to Sequoyah- Tahlequah, the Lady Indians scored twice in the first inning and four runs in the third inning for a 6-0 lead before the Lady Bulldogs scored their lone run in the third inning on Amarie Duran’s RBI single.

In defeat, Amarie Duran had an RBI single, Noelia Parga singled and scored once and Amaya Duran and Aliyah Duran each singled for Muldrow.

Young took the loss, despite recording three strikeouts in four innings.

In the loss to Checotah, Checotah pitcher Shaelynn Casey threw a four-inning one-hitter with two strikeouts.

After the Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 2-1 after an inning, the Lady Wildcats scored four runs in the second inning and two runs in the fourth inning.

Amaya Duran had Muldrow’s only hit.

Young suffered the loss, going the first four innings with two strikeouts. Dean got the final three outs.

Muldrow’s road three-way with Kansas at Vian that was slated for Aug. 19 was rained out with no make-up date rescheduled at this time.
