Gans Lady Grizzlies suffer losses to Leflore, Battiest, Arkoma, Cameron
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

It was a rough week for the Gans Lady Grizzlies fast-pitch softball team last week as they lost all four games played.

The Lady Grizzlies lost twice on Aug. 18 — 9-2 to the host Leflore Lady Savages and 9-0 to Battiest — followed by an 18-8 home loss to Riverside Conference rival Arkoma on Aug. 19 and a 13-0 three-inning road loss to conference foe Cameron on Thursday.

In the loss to Leflore, the Lady Savages, who trailed 1-0 in the first inning, scored twice in the first inning and three runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead.

In defeat, Abigail Leach’s single was the lone hit for the Lady Grizzlies (0-6).

Leach (0-6) suffered the loss, despite striking out six batters in three innings. Nora Barnea got the final two outs.

In the loss to Battiest, the Lady Grizzlies were one-hit, with that hit being Valan Harper’s single.

The Lady Panthers scored three runs in the first inning, twice in the second inning and four runs in the third inning to put the game into run-rule status.

Leach took the loss, despite getting six Ks in 2.2 innings.

In the loss to Arkoma, which was the Lady Grizzlies’ home opener, after the Lady Grizzlies took an 8-5 lead after four innings, the visitors scored four runs in the fifth inning, once in the sixth inning and eight runs in the seventh inning to get the comefrom- behind win. In defeat, Makenzy Hunter was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Leach was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored for Gans.

Leach suffered the loss, despite striking out 13 batters. The Lady Grizzlies made seven errors in the game, accounting for 11 unearned runs. In the loss to Cameron, Cameron pitcher Mylie Ibison threw a one-hitter with six strikeouts in three innings.

The lone hit for the Lady Grizzlies was a double by Leach, who took the loss although she recorded three strikeouts in two innings. The Lady Grizzlies made six errors that accounted for nine unearned runs for Cameron.

Friday’s home threeway with Webbers Falls and Haileyville was canceled.
