In an effort to promote health and wellness among older adults, the Eastern Oklahoma Development District’s (EODD) Area Agency on Aging, in collaboration with the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative, is offering a free six-week Tai Chi for Better Balance program.

The classes, which began August 13 and run through September 25, will be held every Wednesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Muskogee, located at 2000 Haskell Blvd.

Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese martial art known for its slow, flowing movements, has been shown to help reduce the risk of falls, improve balance, and enhance flexibility—benefits especially valuable for older adults. Organizers emphasize that the program is accessible to individuals of all fitness levels, regardless of strength, flexibility, or prior experience.

“This class is about more than just physical activity,” said program coordinators. “It’s an opportunity to support the mind, body, and spirit through gentle, continuous movement in a welcoming environment.”
