The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced that a Muldrow man has recently been found guilty of child sexual abuse charges in Indian Country, according to a press relase issued by the Office.
Justin Floyd Qualls, aka Jay Qualls, 40, of Muldrow, was found guilty by a federal jury of one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor in Indian Country.
The jury trial began with testimony on August 5 and concluded on Aug. 7, with the guilty verdict.
During the trial, the U.S. presented evidence that in May 2024, Qualls knowingly engaged in a sexual act with a child who had not yet attained 12 years of age.
The crime occurred in Adair County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation of Oklahoma, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The guilty verdict was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Honorable Timothy M. Reif, U.S. Judge for the United States Court of International Trade, sitting by assignment in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the trial in Muskogee and ordered the completion of a pre-sentence report.
The sentencing will be scheduled following completion of the report. Qualls will remain in the custody of United States Marshals until sentencing.
