Roland man charged after shooting neighbors’ dogs
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR

A Roland man is facing charges of animal cruelty and malicious injury to property after police say he admitted to repeatedly shooting his neighbors’ dogs with a BB gun.

Kevin L.Walker, 63, was charged in Sequoyah County District Court following an investigation by Roland Police Officer Brandon Luper. Walker allegedly shot five dogs belonging to his neighbors while the animals were inside their fenced yards.

According to the police report, the investigation began on May 26, when Luper responded to complaints from three different individuals, who live in adjoining units at 100 N. Roland Road. The residents reported injuries to their dogs and BB gun damage to their property.

Luper reported that he observed several round, raised red marks on Tuggy, a small brown and red dog belonging to one of the neighbors. Similar injuries were noted on Ozzy, a large white dog owned by another neighbor, though the latter also appeared to be suffering from a rash, making injury documentation difficult.

Damage to both units of the duplex included small round holes in doors and windows, consistent with BB impacts.

Two yellow metal BBs were also recovered near the back door of one of the neighboring units.

On May 29, Luper interviewed Walker, who reportedly confessed to shooting the dogs on multiple occasions. Walker stated he was frustrated by the dogs’ barking and wanted to teach them to stay quiet when he was outside.

He admitted to firing at the dogs while they were within their fenced areas but claimed any property damage was unintentional.

Walker is charged with one felony count of animal cruelty and one criminal misdemeanor count of malicious injury to property under $1,000.

He received a $5,000 bond and is expected to appear in court today for an arraignment with Associate District Judge Kyle Waters.
