A man with addresses in both Sallisaw and Muldrow has been charged with second degree rape and forcible sodomy of a victim under the age of 16, according to court documents.
Donald R. Wann Jr., 29, was charged July 16 in Sequoyah County District Court and is now scheduled for an August 6 arraignment with Associate District Judge Kyle Waters.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case, the victim reportedly confessed to a family member that they’d been having sexual relations with Wann while he was living in the same Sallisaw residence as the victim.
A police report was filed with the Sallisaw Police Department the following day.
The victim alleged the first incident happened in February or March of this year while the two were sleeping on pallets in a floor of the residence. The victim said Wann allegedly sexually assaulted them almost on a daily basis while helping the victim with homeschool curriculum.
Sallisaw Police Detective Jeff Craghead spoke to Wann, who said he’d lived with the victim and the victim’s family, off and on, for almost two years. He claimed the victim had “feelings” for him and was acting out, and that “things went further than he intended for them to go that night,” according to the affidavit.
When the detective asked him to elaborate further, Wann reportedly stated he would no longer answer any questions.
Wann was then transported to the Sequoyah County Detention Center where he was booked in on his charges.
District Attorney Jack Thorp said if found guilty of the rape charge, it is punishable by imprisonment for one to 15 years, while the sodomy charge is punishable by imprisonment for up to 20 years.
