Cherokee Nation shares history, culture with return of community classes

Learn about the rich history and thriving culture of the largest tribal nation in the United States with the return of Cherokee Nation’s history class, “Cherokee Nation: A History of Resilience.”

The course provides a timeline of Cherokee history and events, with an emphasis on traditional Cherokee arts, culture and oral history from pre-European contact through present day. It is offered for free to the public with registration on a first-come, first-served basis both throughout the Cherokee Nation Reservation and to at-large communities.

Since 2023, more than 700 individuals have earned certificates of completion in the course, with new locations added to meet the growing demand.

The course takes place from 6-8 p.m. at the following locations within the Cherokee Nation Reservation: June 2-30 (Mondays), Sallie Byrd Sevenstar Community Building in Muldrow June 5-July 3 (Thursdays), Connors State College – Russell Hall Aug. 19-Sept. 16 (Tuesdays), Marble City Community and Wellness Center Additional dates and times will be added throughout the year.
