Central Tigers win once in own Central Tig^er Shootout, get consolation championship

The Central Tigers got a win during the three-day Central Tiger Shootout with a consolation semifinal 4-3 win over Stilwell on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers opened the tournament with an 8-3 loss to Warner, then essentially played a non-tournament game against Poteau on Saturday afternoon and lost 15-6 in five innings.

The reason for the Pirates to play the Tigers on Saturday all stemmed from the fact that Keys could not play in the tournament, due to having to make-up its District 3A-7 game against Sequoyah-Tahlequah on Thursday. So, the Checotah junior varsity took the Cougars’ spot on Thursday and Friday, but they could not come back on Friday due to Checotah’s prom. Since Poteau lost a game due to the previous weeks rain, the Tigers allowed the Pirates to slide into the Checotah JVs spot on Saturday.

Last week got started with a 12-2 road win over Webbers Falls on March 7 at Eual Carter Sports Complex in Webbers Falls.

In the loss to Poteau, the Pirates scored six runs in the opening inning and never looked back.

In defeat, Ryker Miller was 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored, Kyle Harden was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Aidan Sainer doubled with an RBI and a run scored for the Tigers (713).

Hardy Buzzard (0-7) took the loss, going the first 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Sainer went the next 2.2 innings with a strikeout. Harden got the final two outs.

In the win over Stilwell in the tournament consolation semifinals, the Tigers walked it off in the bottom of the seventh inning on an error on Buzzards grounder with one out after the Indians tied the game at 3 in the top of the frame.

For the game, Sainer singled with two runs scored, Kiefer Bailey singled with a run scored, Miller singled and Kage Poindexter singled and scored once for Central.

Bailey (4-2) got the win in relief, going the final four innings with six strikeouts. Waylen Campbell went the first three innings with two strikeouts.

In the tournament loss to Warner, the Eagles flew out to a 7-0 lead after two innings. The Tigers cut their deficit to 7-1 after three innings but got no closer.

In defeat, Sainer doubled, while Poindexter doubled with an RBI for Central.

Buzzard suffered the loss, going 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Miller went the final 5.2 innings with six Ks.

In the win over Webbers Falls, the Tigers rallied from a 2-1 secondinning deficit with a three-run third inning to take the lead for good at 4-2. An eight-run fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Sainer was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a run batted in, Buzzard 2-for-2 with two hitter.
