While March 31 was not a good day for the Muldrow Bulldogs baseball team, it was for lone senior Jonah Claborn.
On that day, the ’Dogs suffered a pair of home District 4A-8 home losses to the Broken Bow Savages by scores of 17-0 in five innings and 8-0, but Claborn reached the 150-strikeout mark for his high school career in the nightcap.
In the opener, Broken Bow pitcher Jett Johnson threw a no-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Hayden McKinster (1–3) suffered the loss, despite getting two strikeouts in four innings. Jack Rhodes went the final inning with a strikeout.
In the nightcap, the Broken Bow duo of Austin Burkhart and Gage Smith combined on a three-hitter. Burkhart got the win as he fanned 15 batters in six innings. Smith had three Ks in his one inning of work.
In defeat, McKinster, Brody Israel and Jace Prewett each singled for Muldrow’s three hits.
Claborn (1-4) took the loss, despite striking out nine batters in six innings — but one of those Ks was his 150th as a prep pitcher.
The Bulldogs (4-12 overall, 0-7 in district play) had their two-day Muldrow Baseball Festival rained out on Thursday and Friday. Firstyear coach John Rozell said the two-day event will not be made up.
