Roland baseball team finishes eighth in own Wood Bat Tournament
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Roland Rangers baseball team is still seeking its first win of the 2025 season.

Last week ended by seeing the Rangers lose all three games in their own Roland Wood Bat Tournament, which took place Thursday through Saturday.

The Rangers lost both of their Thursday poolplay games in their tournament, falling 11-0 to Sequoyah-Tahlequah and 4-1 to Gore. The archrival Muldrow Bulldogs nipped the Rangers 3-2 in Saturday’s seventh-pace game.

The week started with an 11-1 loss to the Cameron Yellowjackets on March 25 in Cameron.

In the loss to Cameron, the Yellowjackets broke a scoreless tie with a three-run second inning. After the Rangers (0-7) cut their deficit to 3-1 in the third inning, the ’Jackets put the game into run-rule status with an eight-run third inning.

In defeat, Austin Foster was 2-for-2, while Avery Moya doubled with a run batted in for Roland, which mustered only three hits all game.

Brett Mouldin (0-3) took the loss, getting a strikeout in three innings of work.

In the loss to Sequoyah- Tahlequah, the Rangers were two-hit, with a single apiece from Channing McKinney and Colton Peters being all the offense they could muster.

The Indians scored three runs in the opening inning to take control of the game, then a pair of runs in the fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

Moya (0-1) suffered the loss, despite recording four strikeouts in four innings.

In the loss to Gore, the Pirates scored once in the first inning and twice in the third inning for a 3-0 lead. After the Rangers cut the deficit to 3-1 after three innings, the Pirates scored an insurance run in the fifth inning.

In defeat, Raesean Perryman’s single was the only hit the Rangers got off Gore starting pitcher Tate Brooksher.

Hunter Burris (0-1) suffered the loss, despite striking out five batters in five innings.

In Saturday’s seventhplace game, the Bulldogs broke a 1-all tie with a two-run fifth inning for a 3-1 lead. The Rangers scored once in the sixth inning to cut it to 3-2 but got no closer.

In defeat, Foster, Peters and Burris each singled for Roland’s three hits.

Mouldin suffered the loss, getting a strikeout in five innings.
