CASA for Children needs volunteers to help local children in Foster Care

February is the month of love, a time when many children celebrate Valentine’s Day with family, friends, and classmates. But for children in foster care, this time of year can feel lonely. These children need love and support more than ever, and CASA for Children is calling on community members to step up and make a difference.

Children enter the foster care system through no fault of their own. Overnight, everything in their life changes – new home, new school, new people. It is a scary time and they need someone they can count on. That is where CASA comes in, and they need people like you to help.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. Volunteers with CASA are well trained and supported by CASA staff in their advocacy of the vulnerable children they serve. CASA volunteers spend time with the children on their case, getting to know the child and their unique needs, and giving the child a voice in court, school, and in life.

Right now, many kids in our area are waiting for a CASA volunteer. If you can commit 10-15 hours a month, you can make a lasting impact in a child’s life. No special education or experience are required – just a caring heart and a little time.

This Valentine’s season, consider giving the greatest gift—a trusted adult who will stand by a child’s side. CASA volunteer training classes are forming now, and there has never been a better time to say “yes” to a child in need.

To find out more about how you can become a CASA volunteer, contact Jenny Crosby at 918-685-1501 or email jenny@casaok. org.
