Roland basketball teams get NOAA sweeps of Muldrow, Sallisaw, Stilwell

It was quite the week of basketball for the Roland Runnin’ Rangers and Lady Rangers as they got three sets of NOAA Conference sweeps last week.

The week started off with a pair of road conference wins over Muldrow as the Runnin’ Rangers won 65-43 and the Lady Rangers beat Muldrow 59-54 in overtime at Roger Sharp Activity Center.

Then, the Roland teams made up the Jan. 31 road games at Sallisaw with a sweep as the Runnin’ Rangers beat the Black Diamonds 7355 and the Lady Rangers took a 38-32 victory over the Lady Diamonds.

Friday night at the Ranger Dome, the Runnin’ Rangers downed the Stilwell Indians 5248 while the Lady Rangers downed the Lady Indians 46-23.

In the boys’ win over Muldrow, the Runnin’ Rangers (18-1 overall, 8-0 in NOAA Conference play) doubled up the Bulldogs in the opening period 16-8, but the ‘Dogs outscored the Runnin’ Rangers 1710 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 2625 at halftime. Roland outscored Muldrow 16-9 in the third quarter and 24-9 in the final period to earn the win, and get the season sweep of the Bulldogs.

For the game, Damonte Owens led Roland with a game-high 24 points, followed by Mason Kemp with 14 points, Kade Shook with 10 points, Raesean Perryman and Buck Triplett with five points each, Cason Perryman and Landon Fowler each with two points and Nate Criswell with a free throw.

In the girls’ victory over Muldrow, the Lady Rangers (15-4, 8-0) rallied from a 36-28 third quarter deficit to get the game tied at 42-all to force overtime, then outscored the Lady Bulldogs 17-12 in OT to get the come-from-behind victory.

For the game, Roland put a trio of players into double figures, led by Molly Carver with 18 points and Haven Freeman and Halle Freeman with 12 points apiece. Ryanne Nelke had six points, followed by Lilly Cole with three points and Julianna Trujillo with two points.

In the boys’ win over Sallisaw, the Runnin’ Rangers broke a 36-all tie at halftime by outscoring the Black Diamonds 37-19 in the second half.

For the game, Kemp scored a game-high 28 points and Owens added 23 points to lead Roland, followed by Triplett with eight points, Kayden Hartt with six points, Raesean Perryman with four points and Cason Perryman and Paul Johnson with two points apiece.

In the girls’ victory over Sallisaw, the Lady Rangers, who trailed 2826 after three quarters, outscored the Lady Diamonds 12-4 in the final period to get the comefrom- behind win. For the game, Nelke scored a game-high 13 points and Haven Freeman added 12 points to lead Roland, followed by Cole with five points, Halle Freeman with four points, Carver with three points and Trujillo with a free throw.

In the boys’ win over Stilwell, the Runnin’ Rangers, who trailed 30-21 at halftime, outscored the Indians 16-6 in the third quarter to take a 37-36 lead after three quarters. A 15-12 final period for Roland kept the Indians at bay.

For the game, Owens led Roland with a gamehigh 23 points, followed by Kemp with nine points, Shook with seven points, Fowler with six points, Raesean Perryman with five points and Triplett with two points.

In the girls’ victory over Stilwell, the Lady Rangers blanked the Lady Indians 16-0 in the first quarter and never looked back.

For the game, Nelke scored a game-high 19 points and Halle Freeman added 10 points to lead Roland, followed by Carver with seven points, Haven Freeman with four points and Trujillo and Cole with three points apiece.
