Dates set for 60th annual County Junior Livestock Show
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR

The 60th annual Sequoyah County Junior Livestock Show is set to take place February 5-7, at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds, with the highly anticipated Premium Sale scheduled for the evening of Feb. 7.

As a longstanding tradition in the county, the show provides an invaluable opportunity for the next generation of agriculturalists to showcase their hard work and dedication. The event brings together a diverse group of student exhibitors, eager to present the results of months of preparation, care, and learning.

Visitors are encouraged to attend and support the efforts of the county’s 4-H and FFA members, who have put in tireless hours of work on their livestock projects throughout the year.

The livestock show adheres to the Oklahoma 4-H and FFA Show-Ring Code of Ethics and Livestock Entry Certification. All animals will be weighed and sifted between 9 a.m. and noon on the day of the show.

Animals featured in the Premium Sale will include 25 Market Hogs, 15 Market Lambs, 15 Steers, 15 Heifers, and 15 Market Goats. Both Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Gilt & Doe will also be included in the sale.

The funds raised from the Premium Sale play a crucial role in offsetting the costs students incur while preparing their animals, from purchasing livestock to feeding and maintaining them in top condition. Historically, the Premium Auction has seen strong support from businesses across the county, providing “add-ons” that offer local supporters a chance to contribute at a smaller cost, allowing more people to be involved in this important event.

In the case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed and moved to Feb. 11-13.

The Sequoyah County Fairgrounds are located at 464101 E. 1070 Rd. (East Redwood and Shurley) in Sallisaw. Community members are encouraged to come out and see firsthand the dedication and hard work of the county’s youth in the agricultural field.

Thank you for supporting this educational experience for our students, which has become a cornerstone of their development as future leaders in agriculture.
