Central Basketball Teams Sweep Savanna, Have Other Games Wiped Out Due to Illness
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

It was a short week of basketball as it turned out for the Central High School basketball teams.

The Lady Tigers and Tigers only got to play one set of games last week as they swept a pair of road games Jan. 27 at Savanna as the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady ’Dawgs 45-35 and the Tigers tamed the Bulldogs 45-30.

However, the illness issue reared its ugly head for the rest of the week as Thursday night’s road games at Kinta were canceled and Friday night’s road games at Wister were postponed and were slated to be played Monday night at Wister High School’s Jerry Carpenter Memorial Gymnasium.

In the girls’ win over Savanna, the Lady Tigers (14-3) jumped out to a 14-9 lead after a quarter, which became a 29-13 halftime advantage and a 33-22 lead after three periods.

For the game, Paris Campbell scored a game-high 11 points and Cambree Bair added 10 points to lead Central, followed by Ayrland Jiles with nine points, Hadlie Woods with eight points and Haley Cheek with seven points.

In the boys’ contest, the Tigers (11-6) clawed their way to a 15-6 lead after a period, then took a 27-13 advantage at halftime and entered the fourth quarter with a 34-19 lead.

For the game, Josh Brunk scored a gamehigh 18 points and Aidan Sainer added 11 points to lead Central, followed by Gavin Randolph with eight points, Braxin Goodson with five points and Jake Woods and Kiefer Bailey with two points apiece.

The Central basketball teams got good news from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) on Friday as they were named a Class 2A District Tournament host, welcoming the Hulbert teams to town. The district tournament will take place either Feb. 14 or 15.
