Former Muldrow Lady Bulldog Hannah Boyett was able to achieve two things at the same time for the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions women’s basketball team.
Not only did the Lions’ winning streak reach five games, but Boyett eclipsed the 1,000-point mark to become the first UAFS women’s player to score 1,000 points since the program went t6o NCAA Division II status.
B oyett’s free throw in the Lions’ 81-75 road win over Northeastern State University on Jan. 16 in Tahlequah was her 1,000th career point. Boyett also had a rebound that night.
Boyett scored three points, grabbed four rebounds, had a blocked shot and a steal to lead the Lions to a 96-54 road win over Kansas Newman on Jan. 23 at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.
Boyett helped the Lions get their fifth straight win Sunday afternoon as she scored nine points to go with her four boards, two blocked shots and two steals as the Lions roared past the host Emporia State University Hornets 87-68 at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan.
Boyett, who is playing basketball after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in July, and the Lions 13-5 overall, 7-2 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Association play) will try to run their winning streak to six games at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a home game against Missouri Southern at Stubblefield Center before facing Pittsburg (Kan.) State at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stubblefield Center.
