Former Muldrow baseball player ready for college career
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

After having a successful high school career, former Muldrow Bulldog Reid Sutton is now ready to begin his collegiate career at Seminole State College when the Trojans open the 2025 season Jan 30-31 at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M. — in which there will be a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Thursday and a single game at noon Friday.

“I’m extremely excited,” Sutton said. “This year, we’re going to be really good. We have a lot of sophomores, so I’m trying to take in as much learning as I can get — I’m really excited about that part. I’m just going to work hard and work my way up.”

At this time, it would appear that Seminole State College coach Mack Chambers will use the former Muldrow Bulldog as an outfielder.

“Right now, I’m just a corner outfielder in left and right,” Sutton said. “I’m DH’ing a little bit. I’ve gotten some reps at first base. It’s just wherever he (Chambers) asks me to go, I’m good with it — but right now, I’m just a corner outfielder. I’ve always been an outfielder, but I’ve been asked to play shortstop at Muldrow. So, I’m kind of used to the outfield. That’s what I’ve been playing in the summer.”

So far, the college experience hasn’t been overwhelming.

“Nothing has really changed for me,” Sutton said. “I lived in a small town (Muldrow). Seminole is a small town. It’s a small campus. It’s just been baseball 24-7. That’s my job. It hasn’t been too much of a change. There’s just a lot more baseball.”

In college, there is a month’s worth of fall scrimmages in September and October for the Trojans. Sutton said it took a while to get into a college baseball frame of mind, but he believes he’s there now.

“The fall season was tough. The game sped up so much. Towards the end, I really started to figure it out a little bit. I started to just relax, let myself play and not really think — just go out there and play. It (his baseball game) has gotten a lot better, I can tell you that.”

Pretty much it’s been all baseball for Sutton once he got to Seminole State College.

“We really just hit, hit and hit,” he said. “He (Chambers) always preaches to us just to slow everything down when the game speeds up. He really doesn’t say much about my swing or anything. We just rep out things a lot more. There’s a lot more practice.”
