Muldrow basketball teams get homecoming sweep over Checotah after taking two from Poteau

It was a good week for Muldrow basketball last week in NOAA Conference play.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs ended the week with a homecoming sweep of Checotah on Friday night at Roger Sharp Activity Center after taking a road pair from Poteau on Dec. 14 at Poteau High School’s Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.

The ’Dogs defeated the Checotah Wildcats 50-28 to get the homecoming celebration underway, then the Lady Bulldogs capped homecoming night with a 5139 over the Lady ’Cats.

On Dec. 14, the Lady Bulldogs downed the Poteau Lady Pirates 4822 before the Bulldogs completed the sweep with a 63-45 win over the Pirates.

In the boys’ homecoming win over Checotah, the ’Dogs (9-4 overall, 2-2 in NOAA Conference play) rallied from an 8-2 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Wildcats 16-8 in the second period to take an 1814 halftime lead. A 16-6 third quarter upped the Muldrow advantage to 34-20 going into the final period.

For the game, Teaguen Collins scored a gamehigh 17 points and Jesse Kilinc added 14 points to lead Muldrow, followed by DeShawn Willson with seven points, Parker Sevenstar with four points, Jaxson Anstine with three points, D.J. Massey and Tyson Williams with two points each and E.J. Zanders with a free throw.

In the girls’ homecoming victory over Checotah, the Lady Bulldogs (7-6 overall, 3-1 in NOAA Conference play) led 17-13 after a quarter, which became a 26-21 halftime advantage and a 42-28 lead going into the fourth quarter.

For the game, Kayla Ellingberg scored 14 points and Maysi Fields added 12 points to lead Muldrow, followed by London Hardin and Kilah Ellingberg with eight points each, Jensi Fields with four points, Danica Tune with three points and Chloee Clark with two points.

In the boys’ win over Poteau, the ’Dogs led 15-12 after the opening period, but put away the game with a 20-9 second quarter to take a 35-21 halftime lead. Muldrow then doubled up the Pirates in the third quarter to the tune of 20-10 to up the advantage to 5531 going into the final period.

For the game, Collins scored a game-high 24 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Kilinc with nine points, Willson with eight points, Sevenstar with six points, Anstine with five points, Massey with three points and Williams, Zanders, Kaden Rye and Jack Pyeatt with two points apiece.

In the girls’ victory over Poteau, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 27-10 lead after a quarter and were never headed.

For the game, Muldrow put three players into double figures, led by Maysi Fields with 15 points and 10 points apiece from Kilah Ellingberg and Kayla Ellingberg. Jensi Fields scored six points, followed by Hardin with four points, Tune with two points and Emma Fields with a free throw.
