Gans basketball teams lose to Central, Cave Springs

It was a rough end to the pre-Christmas Break portion of the season for the Gans High School basketball teams.

After being swept at home Dec. 16 against Cave Springs, the Lady Grizzlies and Grizzlies lost the following night to the host Central Lady Tigers and Tigers.

The Lady Grizzlies lost 44-13 to Cave Springs, then fell 64-8 to Central.

The Grizzlies suffered a 54-22 loss to Cave Springs, then lost 74-11 to Central.

In the girls’ loss to Cave Springs, the Lady Hornets took the lead for good on back-toback baskets by Jaydin Stephens and Kara Hummingbird at 4-0.

A basket by MaKinzie Kimble for the Lady Grizzlies (0-6) cut the Gans deficit to 4-2 with 7:06 left in the first quarter. It ended being as close as the Lady Grizzlies got on the night.

The Lady Hornets ended the opening period with a 19-2 run to take a 23-4 lead after a quarter, which became a 30-10 halftime lead and a 37-13 advantage after three periods. Cave Springs shut out Gans 7-0 in the fourth quarter.

In defeat, K’Cee Osborn led Gans with six points, followed by Kimble with four points, Skylyn Bird with two points and Addy Bibbs with a free throw.

In the girls’ loss to Central, the Lady Tigers (5-1) jumped out to a 28-2 lead after a quarter and were never headed.

For the game, Central put three players into double figures, led by Haley Cheek with 15 points and Ayrland Jiles and Cambree Bair with 11 points apiece. Zoey Lattimore scored seven points, followed by Hadlie Woods with six points, Paris Campbell with five points, Kimberlynn Fahrman with three points, Ryleigh Pierce, Cheyenne Busch and Khloe Buzzard with two points each and Alexxus Bolin with a free throw.

In defeat, Skylyn Bird scored four points to lead the Lady Grizzlies, while K’Cee Osborn and MaKinzie Kimble scored two points apiece.

In the boys’ loss to Cave Springs, the Hornets scored the first five points of the game before a 3-point basket by Bryce Stevens cut the Gans deficit to 5-3 with 5:42 left in the first quarter. That ended up being as close as the Grizzlies (0-6) got on the night.

The Hornets ended the first quarter with a 22-6 run to take a 27-9 lead after a period. Cave Springs led 36-12 at halftime and 44-16 after three quarters.

In defeat, Stevens, Austin Hines and Tae-Shawn Achan all scored four points to lead Gans, followed by Cristian Gaona and Leland Locust with three points each and Preston Bennett and Harley Strahm with two points apiece.

In the boys’ loss to Central, the Tigers (4-2) put away the game with a 36-1 opening period en route to a 49-5 halftime advantage and a 60-5 third-quarter lead as Central blanked Gans 11-0 in the third quarter.

For the game, Noah Buzzard scored a gamehigh 13 points to lead Central, followed by Nathan Vann and Josh Brunk with eight points each, Aiden Cawhorn with seven points, Gavin Randolph with six points, O’Dell Parker and Hardy Buzzard each with five points, Kyle Reed with four points, Kiefer Bailey and Cole Holcomb with three points each and Braxin Goodson, Jake Woods, Brycen Chandler-Eisman, Aidan Sainer, Cale Stewart and Kage Poindexter with two points apiece.

In defeat, Stevens, Bennett, Achan, Lucas Flute and Jarrett Frazier-Barret led the Grizzlies with two points each, while Jasper Green hit a free throw.
