Staffing decisions made in school board meeting
Muldrow Public Schools announces District site teachers of the year
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR

The Muldrow Public School Board of Education held its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 11 with significant decisions made regarding the district’s budget, staffing, and upcoming projects for the 2024-25 school year.

The meeting, attended by three of the five board members, also featured updates from principals and district leaders on school performance and future plans.

The board approved 202425 encumbrances for both the General Fund and Building Fund, and payroll encumbrances totaling over $164,000. In an effort to retain and motivate staff, the board voted to issue a $250 stipend for both certified and non-certified school personnel. In addition, Shannon Butcher was approved as a substitute for the remainder of the school year.

Site principals John Black, Joe Phillips and David Thomas each presented site test scores and reports cards from the previous school year. Each principal also reviewed numbers from the October parent/teacher conference, with Thomas reviewing the district’s drop out and college remediation reports.

Superintendent Roger Sharp shared updates on key infrastructure projects, including plans for the renovation of the softball field and a potential bond issue to fund future district improvements.

He also spoke on November events and the National School Board Convention, a facility planning agreement with OSSBA, gave the first quarter statistical report, and talked about elementary traffic issues and possible solutions.

Sharp stated they would be having an earlier board meeting time for the month of December.

School board meeting dates were unanimously approved for 2025, along with the 2024-25 School District Budget.

Jana Armer, representing the Muldrow Foundation and Basketball Boosters, shared plans for an upcoming fundraiser to auction reserved seating at basketball games.

Additionally, Mark Hallum addressed the board about the need for increased security measures, proposing the creation of a Reserve Police Department to enhance safety in the district.

In a move to address staffing needs, the board voted to promote Larry Edwards from contract services to a full-time maintenance position for the remainder of the school year.

The board voted to table the discussion on the resolution for the Michael Morton donated monies, but moved forward with the Don Morton Animal Science Expansion Project, hiring RST Construction, LLC (Petree Construction) to manage the construction.
