Roland School Board discusses employment issues
New cafeteria worker hired, election for Board Seat No. 2 approved
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR

The Roland Board of Education held its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 11, led by President Jerry Brooks and attended by all board members, including Vice President Kevin Flurry, Clerk Charles Howard, and Deputy Clerk Ronnie Hemphill.

The board approved the minutes from the previous meeting held on Oct. 14, and moved forward with a number of routine actions. One key agenda item was the approval of the district’s 2025 meeting dates, which was passed without opposition.

A notable personnel matter was addressed regarding the termination of LaDonna Bush, cafeteria worker. After some discussion, the board voted to accept her termination. Following this, the board entered into an executive session at 6:09 p.m. to discuss employment opportunities for cafeteria staff under the provisions of Oklahoma’s open meeting laws.

During the executive session, which included Superintendent Lori Wiggins and Assistant Superintendent Angie Goode, no official actions or votes were taken.

The board returned to open session at 7:49 p.m., where they revisited the personnel matter and voted to hire Pauline Coleman as the new cafeteria worker. The motion to hire Coleman was approved unanimously.

The board members then passed a resolution calling for an election for School Board Seat No. 2, which has a two and one-half year to an unexpired term. In addition, they also unanimously approved an agreement between the school and The College of Health, Education and Human Services for student nursing services.

In financial matters, the board approved $152,061.74 in General Fund encumbrances, along with financial reports, purchase order claims and warrants, and all other reports.

In new business, the board gave a green light to a new account request for Campus Safety, and accepted the resignation of John Kent, effective Dec. 31, 2024.

It was noted during the administrator’s report that the windows at the middle school have been completed and that basketball season is up and going.

It was mentioned that the Roland Police Department would be using the commons area for a 12-week reserve academy class, with the meeting adjourning at 8:10 p.m.

This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
