Muldrow Lady Bulldogs have depth, but lack experience
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs were 17-10 last season and got to the Class 4A Area Tournament before seeing their season end.

The not-so-good news is the Lady Bulldogs graduated six seniors from last year’s team.

The good news is two players returning have starting line-up experience — 5-5 junior guard London Hardin (averaged 2.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last season) and 5-5 senior Jensi Fields, who was injured for most of last season but was among the players in the starting line-up as a sophomore for the 2022-23 season which ended at the Class 4A Area Tournament.

Another good thing for the Lady Bulldogs is they also return several players who saw a lot of playing time last season but were not among the players in the starting line-up.

Those reserve players back from last season are 5-7 senior Maysi Fields (2.3 points, 1.3 rebounds per game last season), 5-10 junior Kayla Ellingberg (2.6, 3.1), 5-6 senior Chloee Clark, 5-6 senior guard Danica Tune, 5-6 senior guard Emmalee Short, 5-10 junior forward Gracie Prewett, 5-6 junior guard Jaydin Dean, 5-5 junior guard Gracie Atkerson and 5-5 sophomore guard Emma Fields.

“We have a good number back with playing time but still lack the experience of being in crucial times,” said Muldrow girls coach Jana Armer, who is entering season No. 25 at Muldrow. “By the end of the season, we will have that experience, and we look to go deep into the playoffs.”

The remaining roster players are freshman Keliah Ellingberg and sophomores Amarie Duran and Jordan Johnson.

“Keliah will be a key player for us this year,” Armer said. “She has great athleticism and has a great understanding of the game.”

Armer said her team’s strengths are having great leadership as well as her players’ hunger for being out on the hardwood. The biggest obstacle, at least early on, is experience.

Armer said you just don’t know who will be the hero on any given night.

“We’ve had days where one girl looks like the best player, and the other days where a different girl looks like the best,” she said. “It is a good problem to have.”

The Lady Bulldogs will begin their season at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at NOAA Conference rival Stilwell.
