Central Lady Tigers beat Roland before seeing season end at regional tournament
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The week started out good for the Central Lady Tigers, but both last week and the 2024 season ended on sour notes as the fall campaign came to a close for the Lady Tigers.

After beating Roland 8-4 on Sept. 23, the Lady Tigers went 1-2 in the Class 2A Regional Tournament as they defeated Hulbert 13-3 after losing 10-0 to Howe on Day 1 action last Wednesday in Checotah, then falling 13-0 to regional-host Wister in the loser’s-bracket final on Thursday to end the season at 14-16.

In the win over Roland, the Lady Tigers, who trailed 1-0 in the first inning, rallied with a single run in the first inning and a four-run second inning for a 5-1 lead after two innings. The Lady Rangers scored three runs in the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-4 after three innings, but Central’s three-run fifth inning sealed the deal for the Lady Tigers.

For the game, Brenliegh Allen was 4-for-4 with two runs batted in, Alyvia Warner was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Charlie Petree was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Ayrland Jiles was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs and Keeley Poindexter was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Central.

Allen (12-12) got the win, getting four strikeouts in seven innings.

In the regional-tournament loss to Howe, the Lady Tigers were one-hit, with that hit being an Allie Harris single for the only offense. Allen took the loss.

In the regional-tournament win over Hulbert, after the Lady Riders cut their deficit to 2-1 after two innings, the Lady Tigers scored three runs in the third inning, a single run in the fourth inning and seven runs in the fifth inning for a 13-1 lead to put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Petree was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, Riley Rowland was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, Poindexter was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, Allen was 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored, Camryn Gilliam was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Brianna Taylor was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Jiles hit a solo home run and scored twice for Central.

Allen got the win, getting four strikeouts in five innings.

In the season-ending loss to Wister, the Lady Tigers amassed only two hits — a single apiece by Allen and Gilliam.

Allen took the loss, going the first 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Jiles, who played her final game as a Lady Tiger fast-pitch softball player, went the final 1.1

innings with two Ks.
