Roland Lady Rangers go 2-2 in I-40 Classic after sweeping Okmulgee, splitting with Vian

The Roland Lady Rangers went 2-2 in last weekend’s I-40 Softball Classic as they defeated archrival Muldrow 8-4 on Saturday after losing 3-0 to Gore on Friday and splitting Thursday’s games — beating Keys 6-3 but losing 8-6 to Checotah.

On Sept. 10, they dominated the District 3A-8 host Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs in a road doubleheader, winning 16-7 and 16-2 after they split a road district DH at Vian — winning the nightcap 14-4 after falling 7-6 in the opener.

In the win over Muldrow, the Lady Rangers (10-10) rallied from a 4-3 deficit with a fiverun fourth inning to snatch away the victory from the jaws of defeat.

For the game, Kyleigh Knapp was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in, Ariana Acevedo was 2-for-3 with a double, an insidethe- park solo home run and scored twice, Jordyn Bean was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored and Jaydance Bean was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Roland.

McKinna Cooper (810) got the win, striking out two batters in four innings and throwing a three-hitter.

In the win over Keys, the Lady Rangers broke a 3-all tie with a threerun fifth inning.

For the game, Adriana Moya was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored, Jordyn Bean was 2-for-3 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored and Paisley Davis tripled with an RBI and a run scored for Roland.

Cooper got the victory, throwing a five-inning two-hitter.

In the loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates scored twice in the third inning and once in the fifth inning.

Gore pitcher Cheyenne Davidson threw a six-inning five-hitter with four strikeouts.

In defeat, Acevedo, Moya, Jordyn Bean, Knapp and Laynie Roedenbeck each singled for Roland.

Cooper took the loss for Roland, going five innings with three Ks. Knapp went the final inning.

In the loss to Checotah, after the Lady Rangers cut their deficit to 6-5 after four innings, the Lady Wildcats scored two insurance runs in the fifth inning for an 8-5 lead. Roland scored once in the fifth inning, but the rally fell short.

In defeat, Acevedo was 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, Knapp doubled and Davis doubled with a run batted in and a run scored for Roland.

Cooper suffered the loss, despite fanning four batters in five innings.

In the Game 1 win over Okmulgee, the Lady Rangers (6-4 in district play) were down 1-0 in the first inning, but they scored three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning to take the lead for good at 7-1 after two innings. The Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit on two occasions to four runs, the last time at 11-7 after a four-run fourth inning. However, the Lady Rangers put the game into run-rule status with a five-run fourth inning.

For the contest, Addyson Clark was 2-for-3 with a double, a two-run, inside-the-park home run and scored four runs, while Knapp was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Roland.

Knapp (2-0) got the win, striking out three batters in five innings.

In the Game 2 victory over Okmulgee, after the Lady Bulldogs, the home team in the game, cut the deficit to 3-2 after two innings, the Lady Rangers put away the game with a single run in the third inning, a five-run fifth inning and a sevenrun sixth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Knapp was 5-for-5 with three runs scored, Acevedo was 4-for-5 with two doubles, four runs batted in and three runs scored, Clark was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Davis was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, Moya was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Lilly Cole was 2-for-5 with a run scored, Jordyn Bean doubled with four RBIs and a run scored and Jaydance Bean doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Roland.

Cooper got the win, striking out 12 batters and throwing a six-inning one-hitter.

In the Game 2 win over Vian, the Lady Rangers scored in five of the six innings that were played before the contest reached run-rule status.

Roland rallied from a 2-1 second-inning deficit to take the lead for good with a three-run third inning for a 4-2 lead. Vian cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third inning but got no closer. The Lady Wolverines cut the Roland lead to 7-4 after four innings, but the Lady Rangers scored four runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth inning to take a 14-4 lead.

For the game, Acevedo was 4-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs, Cole was 3-for-4 with a double, there runs scored and an RBI, Clark doubled with two RBIs and a run scored, Jaydance Bean doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Jordyn Bean doubled and scored once for Roland.

Cooper got the victory, fanning four batters in seven innings.

In the Game 1 loss to Vian, the Lady Wolverines rallied from a 5-0 second-inning deficit with a three-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead. The Lady Rangers scored once in the bottom of the fifth inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Acevedo doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Roland. Cooper took the loss.
