Gans softball pitcher no-hits Cameron-Arkoma; Lady Grizzly hitter enjoys 12-hit week

Gans softball pitcher Maddie Freeman threw a no-hitter on Thursday as she and her Lady Grizzlies defeated the Riverside Conference co-op Cameron-Arkoma team by a score of 12-2.

Freeman (2-1) got the victory for the Lady Grizzlies (4-5), striking out a whopping 12 batters.

Last week overall was a good one for the Lady Grizzlies as they went 3-1.

The Lady Grizzlies won both games of their road three-way Aug. 20 at Indianola, beating Pittsburg 13-5 and host Indianola 14-3.

The lone loss came on Thursday, losing a road Riverside Conference game 8-4 to Keota.

In the win over Cameron- Arkoma, the Lady Grizzlies rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a fiverun second inning, a run in the third inning and a six-run fourth inning to take a 12-2 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Abigail Leach was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Addy Bibbs doubled with a run batted in and a run scored, Brighton Dorsey doubled with three RBIs and Gabbie Price tripled, scored twice and had an RBI for Gans.

In the win over Pittsburg, the Lady Grizzlies, who led 1-0 after an inning, put away the game with an eight-run second inning for a 9-0 lead. A two-run sixth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Leach was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Freeman tripled with three RBIs and a run scored for Gans.

Leach (2-4) got the win, getting six strikeouts in six innings pitched.

In the victory over host Indianola, the Lady Grizzlies scored four runs in the opening inning for a 4-0 lead, which became a 10-1 advantage after two innings and a 12-2 lead after three innings. A two-run fourth inning put the game into runrule status.

For the game, Price was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, K’Cee Osborn was 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored, Leach was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, Freeman was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored and Aaliyah Taylor was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI for Gans.

Freeman got her first win of the season, getting five Ks in four innings.

In the loss to Keota, the Lady Lions broke a 1-all tie with a six-run second inning for a 7-1 lead.

In defeat, Leach was 4-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored, while Price was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for the Lady Grizzlies. All total for the week, Leach was 12for-14 with a double, a triple, six RBIs and nine runs scored.

Leach (2-4) suffered the loss, although she struck out three batters in seven innings.
