Muldrow gets first win of season in victory over archrival Roland

It was a rough opening week for the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs to begin the 2024 fast-pitch softball season, but they did get one win — over their archrivals.

The Lady Bulldogs (12) downed the archrival Roland Lady Rangers 8-5 on Friday night on Day 1 of the Muldrow Softball Festival for their first win this campaign.

Muldrow lost its season opener on Aug. 12 by the score of 20-0 to Broken Bow in the first district game of the season for the Lady Bulldogs, who stand at 0-1 in district play heading into this week’s slate of district action.

The Lady Bulldogs lost their first game of Day 1 of their festival 8-0 to Eufaula on Friday afternoon.

Day 2 of the Muldrow Softball Festival was rained out and won’t be rescheduled.

In Muldrow’s win over Roland, after the Lady Rangers cut their deficit to 4-3 in the third inning, the Lady Bulldogs scored twice in both the third and fourth innings to take an 8-3 lead after four innings. Roland cut the Muldrow lead to 8-5 in the fifth inning, but the time limit was reached to end the contest.

For the game, Kaydence Young was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs batted in and two runs scored, Raegan Newbern was 2-for-2 and Amaya Duran doubled and scored once for Muldrow.

Jaydin Dean (1-2) got the win, going the first 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts. Young got the final out of the game.

In the loss to Broken Bow, the Lady Bulldogs (0-1 in District 4A-6 play going into this week’s slate of district contests) only got a single by Amaya Duran as their only offensive showing.

The Lady Savages put away the game in the opening inning with an 11-run first inning. An eight-run second inning and a single run in the fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

D ean suffered the loss, only going an inning with a strikeout. Duran went the final four innings with two Ks.

In the loss to Eufaula in the Muldrow Festival, Eufaula pitcher Leah Green threw a one-hitter with six strikeouts. A four-run first inning by the Lady Ironheads was all the run support Green needed.

The lone hit for Muldrow was a single by Amarie Duran. Dean took the loss, despite fanning three batters in four innings.
