Green sentenced to 30 years
For child sex crimes
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR,

A Texas man arrested on charges of aggravated possession of child pornography and lewd molestation in Sequoyah County District Court has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to a press release issued by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Michael W. Green, 64, of Irving, was sentenced on one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and one count of sexual exploitation of a child, with the terms of imprisonment to be served concurrently.

Green was charged in 2022 and a warrant was issued for his arrest the same day.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Investigators Dwayne Frizzell and Cindy Smith received Green’s smartphone after he was arrested in Irving, Texas, on the Sequoyah County warrant. The phone reportedly contained nude images of a child under the age of 12, but Green claimed they were downloaded from the internet.

After Sallisaw Police helped conduct a phone dump of Green’s smartphone, more than 100 images of pre-puberty nude juvenile females, and/or images of adults engaging in sexual acts with the juveniles were discovered. There also were images of a child in Green’s truck that were allegedly taken by Green, that were later found to be a family member of his.

According to reports, while Green was staying with family members in Sequoyah County, he molested the juvenile family member and then fled to Texas.

Sequoyah County Investigator BR Rutherford, who is also a U.S. Marshal Task Force officer, contacted U.S. Marshals in Texas who were able to locate and arrest Green.

According to former reports, Green attempted to obtain a passport but was denied because of the outstanding warrant. Green was then extradited back to Sequoyah County to face his charges.

During the arrest, authorities found him in possession of a loaded firearm, numerous cell phones, a large amount of U.S. Currency, silver bars, and a large amount of foreign currency, among other items.

On January 2, 2024, Green pleaded guilty to the charges.

“This defendant made the depraved decision to sexually exploit a child, not only failing to meet any standard of human decency, but choosing instead to inflict pain and suffering on an innocent victim,” Acting Special Agent in Charge Joseph Skarda of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Oklahoma City Field Office, said. “I’m grateful for the collaborative effort between the FBI and our law enforcement partners to ensure Mr. Green will spend the next 30 years behind prison walls, where he undoubtedly belongs.”

“Michael Green violated his position of trust in the most horrifying, reprehensible and detestable manner possible,” U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Wilson said. “I commend the collaborative work of the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Department, FBI, Sequoyah County District Attorney’s Office, and federal prosecutors in bringing Green to account for his heinous crimes.”

“This is a dangerous predator that has been taken off the streets,” Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane said. “Investigators Smith and Frizzell did a great job on this case. It’s apparent to me that Green was planning to leave the country. Hopefully, now, that poor little girl and her family can get some justice.”

Green will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals pending transportation to a designated U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, visit www. justice.gov/psc.
