New hires, contracts renewed in Muldrow School Board meeting
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR,

School superintendent will officially retire on June 28

The Muldrow Board of Education convened for its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on May 13, where employee contracts and new hires were approved in about an hour long meeting.

The board began the meeting by unanimously approving the minutes from previous meetings, accepted resignations from Leah Ridenour, Zane Rose, and Kelly Upton, and ratified various financial encumbrances totaling $229,505.42.

Jana Armer and Logan Coatney then provided updates on the new video boards and sponsorship efforts. A decision on video board bids was tabled and deferred for further review.

Logan Coatney next discussed the 3A Football Resolution, emphasizing the importance of supporting the school’s athletic programs.

Superintendent Clifta Fugett, during her report, highlighted legislative updates, upcoming Baccalaureate and graduation ceremonies, and other key dates for May.

Fugett is reportedly retir-ing from the school on June 28 after 32 years of service to the Muldrow School district. She began her career at Muldrow in 1985 as a teacher assistant. Fugett went on to serve as a library media specialist, curriculum director, assistant principal, and assistant superintendent before coming superintendent.

The board entered an executive session at 6:43 p.m. to discuss the reemployment of staff for the 2024-25 school year. Upon returning to open session, it was confirmed that the discussions were confined to the agenda items.

The board voted to re-employ all listed certified and non-certified staff for the upcoming school year.

New hires included Sommer Carlile as an elementary teacher and Jacinta Yoakum as a teacher, both on temporary contracts. Kayla Rogers was hired as a custodian and Anna Gail Moore as a paraprofessional, also on temporary contracts.

The board also renewed several contracts for the 2024-25 school year, including membership with the Oklahoma State School Boards Association (OSSBA), Precision Drug Screening for student and employee testing, and agreements with various therapy service providers.

Additional approvals included:

• A service agreement with Hudl for the 2024-25 school year.

• Temporary appropriations for the next school year’s General, Building, and Coop Funds.

• The School Days/ Hours worksheet for the current school year.

• The speech team’s trip to Des Moines, Iowa, from June 15-21, for national competition

• A cooperative agreement with neighboring schools for Alternative Education Programs.

This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
