Muldrow Bulldogs beat Poteau, split with Broken Bow
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

The Muldrow Bulldogs baseball team went 2-1 last week, all in district play.

The ’Dogs capped off the week with a 4-2 home district win over Poteau on Friday after they split their April 15 road district games at Broken Bow — taking the opener 6-5 and dropping the nightcap 18-4.

In Friday’s win over Poteau, the Bulldogs (14-8 overall, 7-4 in district play) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then made it 4-0 in the second inning. The Pirates scored twice in the third inning to cut the deficit to 4-2 but got no closer.

For the game, Colton Pulliam was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored, while Seminole State College signee Reid Sutton was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored for Muldrow.

Sutton (4-3) got the win, going the first five innings with four strikeouts. Jonah Claborn got the save, going the final two innings with a strikeout.

Saturday’s road district game at Poteau was rained out and will not be rescheduled.

In the opener against Broken Bow, the ’Dogs rallied from a 2-1 second-inning deficit with a four-run third inning and a single run in the fourth inning for a 6-2 lead after four innings.

For the game, Pulliam was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, Jacob Gregory was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Gabe Miller was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Drew Prewett was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Muldrow.

Pulliam (5-0) got the win, going the first 5.2 innings with four strikeouts. Claborn got the save, going the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout.

In the nightcap against Broken Bow, the Savages jumped out to a 10-0 lead by the second inning. The Bulldogs cut their deficit to 10-4 by the end of the second inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Sutton was 2-for-3 for Muldrow.

Sutton took the loss, only lasting two-thirds of the opening inning. Claborn pitched an inning, then Prewett went the next two innings with two strikeouts. Hayden McKinster went the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout.

After the Bulldogs had their Senior Night game Monday against Pocola, they will begin the high school baseball playoffs in the Class 4A Regional Tournament at Sallisaw against Glenpool at 1:30 this afternoon. They will play either the winner of Sallisaw-Catoosa at 4 this afternoon or in an elimination game at 6:30 tonight against the Sallisaw-Catoosa loser. The regional finals are set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with the if-game at 2 p.m. Friday.
