Muldrow softball team ends week by downing archrival Roland to end four-game skid
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs softball team capped a rough week that saw a four-game losing streak happen on the highest of notes as they run-ruled the archrival Roland Lady Rangers 14-3 on Friday evening at home.

After starting the week with a 14-8 victory over Sallisaw in the Stilwell Festival on April 1, the Lady Bulldogs lost their next four games — the last three in the Stilwell Festival on April 1 with an 11-9 loss to Vian, a 13-12 loss to Vian and a 10-0 loss to Stilwell — followed by an 8-6 loss to Vian on Thursday afternoon at home.

In the rout of Roland, after the Lady Rangers took a 3-1 lead in the second inning, the Lady Bulldogs (3-6) erupted for 12 runs in their half of the inning for a 13-3 lead after two innings. A single run in the third inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Kaydence Young was 2-for-2 with a double, a solo home run in the first inning and three runs scored, Ashley Price was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, Amaya Duran was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Jaydin Dean was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Cailey Grinstead (3-6) got the win.

In the win over Sallisaw at the Stilwell Festival, the Lady Bulldogs scored nine runs in the first inning to take a 9-2 lead after annoying and were never headed.

For the game, Price was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two runs batted in, Danica Tune was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored and Amaya Duran doubled with an RBI and two runs scored for Muldrow. Grinstead got the win.

In the first loss to Vian at the Stilwell Festival, the Lady Wolverines rallied with a pair of two-run innings in the fifth and sixth innings, then scored an insurance run in the seventh.

In defeat, Young was 4-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored, Price was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Tune was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored, Dean was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Amarie Duran was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Grinstead was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Amaya Duran was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Heidi Mc-Guire was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Muldrow. Grinstead took the loss.

In the second loss to Vian at the Stilwell Festival, the Lady Wolverines scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally for the victory.

In defeat, Tune was 4-for-5 with three doubles, a triple, three runs scored and an RBI, Dean was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Price was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, Grinstead was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Ryah Keenan was 3-for-4 with an RBI, McGuire was 3-for-3 with a run scored, Young was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, Kaira Qualls was 2-for-3 and Amaya Duran hit a two-run homer and scored twice for Muldrow. Grinstead took the loss.

The second day of the Stilwell Festival on April 2 was canceled due to wet fields from the previous night’s rain.

In Thursday’s home loss to Vian, the Lady Wolverines broke a 3-all tie with a five-run third inning for an 8-3 lead. A two-run third and a run in the seventh for Muldrow cut the deficit to 8-6, but the Lady Bulldogs got no closer.

In defeat, Amaya Duran was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Grinstead was 3-for-4, Tune was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI and Young was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for Muldrow. Grinstead took the loss.

After playing in two straight road three-ways — Monday at Central with Arkoma and Tuesday at Sallisaw with Gore — the Lady Bulldogs will be in the Checotah Tournament on Thursday, followed by a third road three-way for the week with Vian at Roland beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Next week, Muldrow will play Spiro twice in a battle of Bulldogs, Monday at home and Tuesday in Spiro.
