Gans Lady Grizzlies softball team drop games to Cameron, lose to Keota, Okay in RCT

It was a rough week last week for the Gans Lady Griz zlies as they lost all four games played. The week started with a doubleheader loss on the road against Cameron by scores of 12-5 and 3-1 on April 1.

Then, the Lady Grizzlies went 0-2 in the 2024 Riverside Conference Tournament on Thursday in Stigler as they lost 10-3 to Keota and 11-3 to Okay.

In the opener against Cameron, the Lady ’Jackets rallied from a 3-0 first-inning deficit with a two-run second inning and a five-run third inning for a 7-3 lead. After Gans scored twice in the fourth inning, Cameron responded with a fiverun fourth inning to put away the game.

In defeat, Raina Gaona was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Brianna Burris doubled with two runs batted in for the Lady Grizzlies (0-8).

Burris (0-3) suffered the loss, going the first three innings. Gaona pitched the final inning.

In the nightcap against Cameron, after Gans broke a scoreless deadlock with a run in the fourth inning, Cameron responded with three runs in its half of the frame to get the comefrom- behind win.

In defeat, Burris tripled and scored Gans’ lone run. Gaona suffered the loss.

In the tournamentopening loss to Keota, the Lady Lions rallied from a 2-1 first-inning deficit with a five-run second inning and a four-run fourth inning to take a 10-2 lead.

In defeat, Makenzy Hunter was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Gans. Gaona took the loss.

In the tournamentending loss to Okay, the Lady Mustangs scored twice in the first inning and three runs in the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead. The Lady Grizzlies scored once in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5-1 but got no closer. Okay scored six runs in the sixth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

Gans was able to only muster three hits in the game — a double apiece by Aaliyah Taylor and Gabbie Price and a single by Burris. Gaona (0-4) took the loss.

The Lady Grizzlies were slated to entertain Porum on Tuesday, then will play a 4 p.m. Thursday game at McCurtain and a 5:30 p.m. Friday game at home against Cave Springs. Next week, the Lady Grizzlies will play a 4 p.m. Monday home game against Webbers Falls and a 4:30 p.m. Tuesday home game against Keota.

Editor’s Note: The Gans Grizzlies baseball team beat Cave Springs 8-1 on Thursday at home to improve to 2-4 on the season after being rained out Tuesday at Oaks. There was nothing more reported on the game by press time.
