Roland Rangers beats Okmulgee, Pocola, but drop district games to Eufaula
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

It was a tale of two parts of Spring Break Week for the Roland Rangers baseball team.

The end to Spring Break Week went well as the Rangers got a 10-2 five-inning home win over the Okmulgee Bulldogs on Thursday, then got an 11-5 road win over the Pocola Indians on Friday.

However, the start to Spring Break Week was not as good as the Rangers dropped both district games to the Eufaula Ironheads, losing 13-3 on March 18 in Eufaula and dropping a 6-4 decision on March 19 at home.

In the win over Okmulgee, the Rangers took a 1-0 lead on a passed ball, allowing Alex Brant to score.

After the Bulldogs tied the game at 1-all in the second inning, the Rangers broke the tie with a four-run third inning, followed by a three-run fourth inning for an 8-1 lead. After Okmulgee scored once in the top of the fifth inning, the Rangers put the game into run-rule status with a two-run frame in their half of the inning.

For the game, Paden Pitts was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Ashton Peters was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in, Colton Peters was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI and Arkansas signee Carson Wiggins hit an RBI double and scored twice for Roland.

Pitts (2-0) got the win, getting a complete five-inning game victory with six strikeouts and throwing a threehitter.

In the win over Pocola, the Rangers scored early and often as they scored five runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning for a 9-0 lead and never looked back.

For the game, Wigins was 2-for-4 with his second and third home runs and four RBIs, Brant singled and scored, Trenton Ross singled with an RBI and a run scored, Raesean Perryman singled with an RBI and Hunter Burris singled with two RBIs for Roland.

Brant (1-2) got his first win of the season, going the first six innings with nine strikeouts. Colton Peters pitched the seventh inning with a strikeout.

In the first district loss to Eufaula on March 18, the Ironheads broke a 1-all tie with a fiverun third inning and a three-run fourth inning for a 9-1 lead after four innings.

In defeat, Ashton Peters was 3-for-3 with a double, Brant was 2-for-3, Wiggins was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Colton Peters was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Rangers (4-4 overall, 1-3 in district play).

Ashton Peters (02) took the loss, going four innings with six strikeouts but allowing nine runs, with only five earned due to two Roland errors. Colton Peters got the final two outs.

In the second district loss to Eufaula on March 19, the Ironheads broke a scoreless tie with a single run in the sixth inning and five runs in the seventh for a 6-0 lead.

The Rangers mounted a seventh-inning rally as back-to-back RBI doubles by Ashton Peters and Colton Peters and back-to-back RBI singles by Perryman and Burris cut the Roland deficit to 6-4, but Eufaula pitcher Hayden Robinson finished his completegame victory by retiring the next two Roland batters to end the threat and the game.

Robinson struck out 11 Rangers in seven innings.

Alex Brant took the loss in relief, going the final two innings and allowing six runs, five of which were earned, on three hits with a strikeout. Wiggins, who had 17 Major League Baseball scouts in attendance, went the first five innings with 13 Ks and allowed no hits and no runs.

The Rangers were slated to return to district play against Tulsa Cascia Hall, playing there on Monday and in Roland on Tuesday, before putting on their own Wood Bat Tournament, which will take place with three games each day beginning at 11:30 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
