Muldrow Bulldogs sweep baseball district games from Wagoner; rest of last week’s games rained out
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

The Muldrow Bulldogs got a pair of district baseball wins over Wagoner to begin action last week, winning 16-15 on March 11 at Wagoner, then posting a 14-5 home victory on March 12.

The rest of the games for the ’Dogs (3-2 overall, 2-2 in district play) was either rained out — as in the case Thursday at Savanna — or canceled due to wet fields from Thursday’s storms — as was the case for Friday’s home game against county rival Sallisaw.

In the road win over Wagoner, the Bulldogs rallied from an 8-7 deficit with a five-run sixth inning to take a 12-8 lead. After Wagoner cut the deficit to 12-10 after six innings, Muldrow scored four runs in the seventh inning for a 1610 lead, then had to survive Wagoner’s five-run seventh-inning rally for the come-from-behind win.

For the game, Reid Sutton was 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two runs batted in, Jonah Claborn was 2-for-6 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, Colton Pullman was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, Will Stratmann was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI and Gabe Miller was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored for Muldrow.

Sutton (1-1) got the win in relief, going the final 4.2 innings with six strikeouts. Claborn started and went the first 2.1 innings with two strikeouts.

In the home victory over Wagoner, Muldrow rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take the lead for good with a pair of four-run innings in the first two frames for an 8-2 lead after two innings. A three-run sixth inning put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Sutton, a Seminole State College signee, was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two runs batted in, Claborn was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI and Drew Prewett doubled with two RBIs and scored once for the ’Dogs.

Colton Pulliam (10) got his first win of the season, going the first four innings with two strikeouts. Hayden McKinster went the final two innings with four Ks.

The Bulldogs were slated to play a pair of home three-ways, one on Monday with Vian and Central and one on Tuesday featuring Mc-Curtain and Gore.

Editor’s Note: The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs had the first two games of the 2024 slow-pitch softball season rained out — Thursday’s home opener against Pocola and Friday’s road game at Panama. They will open the season at 4:30 p.m. March 25 at Vian.
