Central High School senior cheerleader Avery Warner signed a letter of intent with Oklahoma Baptist University to be a part of OBU’s pom/dance team during a signing ceremony last Wednesday morning inside the CHS lobby.

Warner said OBU just seemed to be the right place to go.

“I went there and toured,” she said. “I’ve been to a few recruitment clinics. I just felt like the (OBU) atmosphere was right for me. The team and coach were perfect. I’ve been to other schools, but this one just felt right.”

The CHS senior cheerleader won’t have to worry about having to wait a year before getting to perform with the OBU pom/dance team.

“Because we’re on the sidelines, we’re all going to be out there,” Warner said. “We’re going to start practices soon. I’m super excited about this opportunity, and to be able to dance with all their amazing people.”

“I’m thriller for her,” CHS assistant cheer coach Ashley Baxter said. “She’s been a great part of our (cheerleading) team for multiple years now. She’s so talented.”

About 30 minutes after Warner signed her OBU pom/dance team letter of intent, fellow CHS senior lineman Josh Marino inked his OBU football letter of intent. It just so happened Marino is Warner’s boyfriend, making it even more special that both will attend the Shawnee college.

“He is also my boyfriend,” she said. “He’s going to play football (at OBU), which is really special. We both told each other that we didn’t want each other to factor in where we’re going. God provided, and it ended up right — we’re both going to the same school, which is amazing.”

Needless to say, the CHS senior is ready to see what the next level has in store.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Warner said. “I’m ready for this new season in my life. It’s going to be good.”

“She has a great work ethic,” Baxter said. “She’ll do great in college.”
