Gans sweep Friday’s homecoming games from Cave Springs after splitting road games against Webbers Falls

It was a happy homecoming for the Gans High School basketball teams Friday night at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse as they swept a pair of games from the visiting Cave Springs teams.

The Grizzlies started things off on the night with a 61-35 win over the Hornets, then the Lady Grizzlies stung the Lady Hornets 34-18.

The week started with a road split against Webbers Falls on Jan. 30 in a prelude to the Class A District Tournament, which will begin this Friday at Webbers Falls as both teams square off at 6 and 7:30 p.m. with the winners advancing to Saturday night’s district finals against Weleetka, while the losers will be eliminated.

In the boys’ homecoming win over Cave Springs, the Grizzlies (9-11) jumped out to a 16-6 lead after a quarter en route to a 33-15 halftime advantage and a 47-26 lead going into the final period.

For the game, Josh Brunk scored a gamehigh 22 points and Mayson Clifton added 21 points to lead Gans, followed by Ashton Langston with seven points, Gunner Vanscoy with five points and Bryce Stevens and Riley Pullin with two points apiece.

In the girls’ homecoming victory, the Lady Grizzlies (7-14) jumped out to a 17-5 lead after a period and never looked back.

For the game, homecoming queen Melania Paniagua scored a game-high 13 points to lead Gans, followed by Brianna Burris with eight points, K’Cee Osburn with six points, Aaliyah Taylor with five points and Reina Gaona with two points.

In the boys’ win over Webbers Falls, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 15-5 lead after a quarter en route to a 28-10 advantage at halftime.

The Warriors tried to mount a comeback as they outscored the Grizzlies 46-33 in the second half, but the rally fell short.

For the game, Brunk led Gans with 26 points, followed by Gunner Vanscoy with 16 points, Mayson Clifton with 11 points, Ashton Langston with five points and Friday night’s homecoming king Nakota White with three points.

In the girls’ loss to Webbers Falls, the Lady Warriors jumped out to a 17-13 lead after the first eight minutes, which became a 27-19 advantage at the half.

The Lady Grizzlies cut their deficit to 43-36 after three quarters, but they were outscored 1510 in the final period as the Lady Warriors held on for the win.

Indefeat,Burristorched the nylon for a game-high 31 points to lead Gans, followed by Paniagua with 10 points, Taylor with three points and Osburn with two points.
