Gans basketball teams sweep home games from Arkoma after suffering losses at Gore, Central, Porum

The Gans High School basketball teams ended a rough week on a high note as they swept a pair of home games from Arkoma on Saturday afternoon at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse.

The Lady Grizzlies edged the Lady Mustangs 34-30, then the Grizzlies corralled the Mustangs 66-41.

The Gans teams had a pair of rough road games earlier in the week.

The Lady Grizzlies lost 26-25 to the Gore Lady Pirates, followed by the Grizzlies losing 4434 to the Pirates on Jan. 23 at Gore Event Center.

Then on Thursday night, the Gans squads were swept on the road by the host Central teams as the Lady Tigers suffered a 65-25 loss to the Lady Tigers, followed by the Tigers downing the Grizzlies 60-39.

On Friday night, the Gans teams suffered road losses to Porum as the Lady Grizzlies suffered a 65-35 loss, while the Grizzlies fell 38-33.

In the Saturday girls’ victory, the Lady Grizzlies (6-13) trailed early 5-3, but they outscored the Lady Mustangs 31-25 over the final 3.5 quarters to secure the comefrom- behind win.

For the game, Brianna Burris led Gans with nine points, followed by Reina Gaona with seven points, K’Cee Osburn and Melania Paniagua with six points each, Aaliyah Taylor with four points and Brighton Dorsey with two points.

In the Saturday boys’ win, the Grizzlies (7-11), who led only by a point at 17-16 after a period, put away the game with a 21-5 second period to up their advantage to 38-21 at halftime, which became a 55-27 lead after three quarters.

For the game, Josh Brunk scored a gamehigh 23 points to lead Gans, followed by Mayson Clifton with 17 points, Gunner Vanscoy with 12 points, Ashton Langston with five points, Nakota White with four points, Leland Locust with three points and Jessie Phillips with two points.

In the girls’ loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates, who beat the Lady Grizzlies just five days prior in the opening round of the Cross Telephone Tournament in Porum, trailed 8-2 after a quarter, but outscored Gans 24-17 over the final three quarters to get the come-from-behind win.

In defeat, Paniagua led the Lady Grizzlies with 10 points. followed by Burris with seven points, Taylor with four points and Gaona and Stevie Pratt with a free throw.

In the boys’ loss to Gore, the Pirates trailed 12-7 after a quarter, but outscored the Grizzlies 37-22 the rest of the way to complete the comeback.

In defeat, Clifton, Brunk and White each scored nine points to lead the Grizzlies, followed by Langston with six points and Vanscoy with a free throw.

In Thursday’s girls’ loss to Central, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 22-6 lead after a period and never looked back.

In defeat, Paniagus scored six points to lead Gans, followed by Osburn, Pratt, Dorsey and Amarys White with four points each and Burris with three points.

In the Thursday boys’ loss to Central, the Grizzlies fell behind 17-10 after a period and never were able to get the lead.

In defeat, Brunk led Gans with 14 points, followed by Clifton with eight points, White with six points, Clay Martin with five points and Langston, Clay Martinez and Riley Pullin with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Porum, Burris led Gans with 11 points.

In the boys’ loss to Porum, Brunk led Gans with 11 points.
