Muldrow boys end last week with three straight wins, Lady Bulldogs two consecutive wins
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

Last week was rather a banner one for both Muldrow High School basketball teams.

The Bulldogs went 3-0 lead week, all in NOAA Conference games. The ‘Dogs ended the week with a pair of conference road games within less than 24 hours as they rallied for a 60-57 come-from-behind victory over the Poteau Pirates on Saturday afternoon at Poteau High School’s Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse after getting a 60-43 road win over the Checotah Wildcats on Friday night. The week began with a 53-47 upset home win over the Stilwell Indians on Jan. 9 at Roger Sharp Activity Center.

The Lady Bulldogs ended last week with a two-game winning streak, also with backto- back road NOAA Conference games as they beat the Checotah Lady Wildcats 51-29 Friday night, then avenged last month’s 50-48 home conference loss to Poteau by downing the Lady Pirates 45-30 Saturday afternoon at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. The week began with a 52-39 home conference loss to Stiwell on Jan. 9 at Roger Sharp Activity Center.

In the boys’ road win over Poteau, the Bulldogs (8-6 overall, 4-2 in NOAA Conference play) trailed the Pirates 40-28 with 3:07 left in the third quarter and ended the game with a 32-17 run.

For the game, the ‘Dogs put three players into double figures, led by a game-high 17 points from Kashan Bukhari, 15 points from Teaguen Collins and 10 points from Jaxson Anstine. Parker Sevenstar had eight points, followed by Hayden Bullock and Deshawn Wilson with three points each and Drew Prewett and Kenoy Releford with two points apice.

In the boys’ road victory over Checotah, the Bulldogs trailed 15-11 after a quarter, but they outscored the Wildcats 49-28 over the final three periods to get the come-from-behind victory.

For the game, Muldrow once again had a trio hit for double figures, led by Sevenstar with 14 points, followed by Collins with 12 points and Bukhari with 11 points. Bullock had nine points, followed by Wilson with six points and Anstine and Jesse Kilinc with four points apiece.

In the boys’ home win over Stilwell, the ’Dogs trailed 14-10 after the first quarter, but they outscored the Indians 15-6 in the second period to take a 25-20 halftime lead. Muldrow then outscored Stilwell 28-27 in the second half to preserve the win.

For the game, Sevenstar led all scorers with a game-high 20 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Kilinc with nine points, Wilson with seven points, Collins and Bukhari with four points each and Anstine, Prewett and Bullock with three points apiece.

In the girls’ road win over Poteau, the Lady Bulldogs (10-4, 4-2) rallied from an 18-17 deficit as Kennedi “Kiki” Wight hit a basket with 34 seconds remaining before halftime to give Muldrow a 19-18 halftime lead. Muldrow would never trail the rest of the way, building as much as a 17-point lead in the third quarter before an early fourthquarter Poteau spurt cut the Muldrow lead to 3930 with 5:36 left to play.

For the game, Muldrow put a trio of players into double figures, led by Wight’s 14 points, Claire Tabor’s 13 points and Katelynn Moore’s 12 points. Maysi Fields had four points, while London Hardin added two points.

In the girls’ road victory over Checotah, the Lady Bulldogs had a 12-8 lead after a period, but a 17-2 second quarter upped Muldrow’s advantage to 29-10 at halftime, which became a 40-16 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Just as against Poteau, Tabor scored a gamehigh 13 points and Fields with 10 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Cailey Grinstead with eight points, Wight and Gracie Prewett with five points each and Hardin, Moore, Kayla Ellingberg, Jaydin Dean and Aubrey Luttrell with two points apiece.

In the girls’ home loss to Stilwell, the Lady Indians jumped out to a 12-3 lead after a period, but the Lady Bulldogs used an 11-9 second quarter to cut their deficit to 21-14 at halftime. However, Stilwell outscored Muldrow 31-25 in the second half to seal the deal.

In defeat, Wight led Muldrow with 17 points, followed by Grinstead with seven points, Hardin and Tabor with six points and Makynlee Morton with three points.
